Another weekend at Donington, this time for a non-championship outing for the R300s on the back of the R400 race.
With no championship points on offer, Jonny decided to sit this one out and hire his car to FS Roadsport racer Jamie Orton, while James Sharrock was looking to get back in the groove after a disappointing weekend at Anglesey and Simon Martyn still needed another couple of signatures for his licence.
Qualifying was dry, and James spent the session getting a feel for the car again having opted not to test the day before. 3rd was the result, with Simon going well and finishing in a personal best of 5th. Jamie was also suffering from a lack of testing having missed most of the previous day due to work commitments but ended up just behind championship front-runner Matt Draper.
Race 1 remains dry, and as the R400s pull out a gap, James gets caught up in a scrap which ultimately leaves him 2nd in class. Jamie and Simon have a race long battle, with Simon's experience in the car eventually deciding it in his favour.
Race 2, and as the cars line up in the assembly area the heavens open. The team manage to quickly get the cars onto a wet setup, while some rivals struggle and have to start from the pitlane. As the race gets underway, James shows off his wet-weather expertise by running right at the front of the R400 pack, and it's only when the track begins to dry he falls back behind some of the more powerful cars. Still, a class win by over 20 seconds is a fitting reward for a stunning drive. Jamie makes better progress in this race, and finishes in front of a couple of R400s, while Simon brings it home for those all-important signatures and the removal of his novice cross.
